KUshi Tamma
Hi!!! My name is Kushi, and I am a sophomore. I’m a double major in Journalism and Business Administration. My top 5 favorite artists are Drake (ofc), Partynextdoor, Brent Faiyaz, Gunna, and Frank Ocean. I want to pursue a career in politics and work as a lobbyist at the White House, fighting for immigration policies and social reforms. In my free time, I love going shopping, traveling with my friends, and trying new food spots! My favorite quote is “If you don’t get out there and define yourself, you’ll be quickly and inaccurately defined by others,” by Michelle Obama. I resonate with this quote because it makes me determined to step into places and spaces where I feel uncomfortable. In order for me to be able to be the best version of myself and do things to make a difference in the world, I have to be confident and speak on things in these situations.
If I could give my younger self some advice, it would be to stop being so hard on myself. Growing up, I was the eldest child and didn’t have a mother figure. I had put myself under a lot of pressure to be the best at everything and be as perfect as I could be. I was constantly in my head and got anxious very easily. As I grew up, I realized how much I’ve accomplished given the circumstances I have been through. I’ve learned to be much more confident in myself and to let it be known that it’s okay for me not to be perfect all the time. I’ve learned that strength doesn’t come from being flawless, but from continuing to show up, even when things feel uncertain or overwhelming. I’ve grown more confident in who I am and more forgiving of who I was.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that it is okay not to be perfect all the time. My value isn’t measured by how much I carry or how well I perform for others. It’s measured by my growth, my perseverance, and my ability to give myself grace. If I could speak to my younger self now, I’d remind her that she was always doing the best she could…and that was more than enough.
A time I failed was when I didn’t set boundaries between school, work, and my personal life. I took on too many responsibilities at once and ended up feeling overwhelmed, which affected my productivity. From that experience, I learned the importance of balance and prioritizing my well-being. Since then, I’ve become more intentional about managing my time and setting limits, which has helped me perform better and stay focused.
If I had a song that played when I walked into a room, it would be “Fancy” by Drake. My friends have always said that song reminds them of me, and it’s the one I naturally play in the car before going out. It’s less about the song itself and more about the feeling it gives me.
I’ve always loved Drake’s older music because it makes me feel confident and driven. It makes me want to work harder and push for more without feeling like I have to prove anything to anyone. It’s motivating yet self-assured. “Fancy” fits that energy to me, and that’s probably why it feels so natural as a walk-in song for me.
If money and time were no object, I would spend my life traveling the world with my best friends. We already travel together whenever we can in our free time, and those trips are some of my favorite memories. I love traveling because it allows us to experience new cultures, try different foods, and create unforgettable moments together. Traveling helps me step outside my routine and see the world from new perspectives. The number one place I want to visit is Santorini for its breathtaking views, blue waters, and peaceful atmosphere.
